How Couples Meet Other Couples: A Practical Guide

In short: most couples start online. Write an honest couple profile, send a short specific first message, chat until you both feel comfortable, then meet for a drink in public with no obligation to do anything else. Social nights and parties are a second route once you are ready.

Where do couples meet other couples?

Most start online and move to meeting in person. The usual routes are:

  • Online communities and profiles. The easiest way to see who is out there, in your area, with no pressure. Start with couples seeking couples.
  • Chat rooms and forums. Good for asking questions and getting to know people before anyone commits to a meet. See our chat rooms and forums.
  • Social nights, parties and clubs. A way to meet several couples at once, with a host or staff around. What Is a Swinger Party Like? and How to Find Swingers Clubs Near You cover this.
  • Introductions through people you already know in the lifestyle. A good recommendation is worth a lot, but few couples have one when they start.

New to all of this? Read What Is Swinging? first, and make sure you have both said yes to the idea (here is how to raise it).

How do you write a good couple profile?

Your profile does the first impression for you. Make it honest, specific and easy to read.

  • Photos. Recent, clear and showing both of you where you are comfortable doing so. Keep identifying details out of the background. See Swinging and Privacy.
  • Experience level. Say whether you are new, getting started or experienced. Honest first-timers are welcome, and it saves everyone's time.
  • What you are open to. Chatting, a social drink, a soft swap, a full swap. Be clear about what is off the table too.
  • Who you are. A few lines about your personalities, interests and what a good night looks like. Skip the generic lines everyone else uses.
  • Both voices. Agree who writes and who messages, and make sure the profile sounds like both of you.

Verification helps. Members can verify their identity for free and earn a blue tick, and a live video check with a moderator is available as an optional extra. VIP members can narrow a search by city, distance, experience level and what people are open to, which saves a lot of scrolling.

What do you say in a first message?

Keep it short, friendly and specific. Mention something from their profile, say a bit about you and ask one easy question.

"Hi both, we loved your line about slow weekends and good wine. We are a couple in our late thirties, fairly new to this, and looking for a relaxed chat first. How long have you been part of the community?"

Avoid copy-and-paste openers, anything explicit before there is a conversation and long lists of demands. If they do not reply, leave it. If they say no, thank them and move on. Our etiquette guide covers more of this.

How long should you chat before meeting?

As long as it takes for both of you to feel comfortable. There is no set number of messages. Some couples meet within a week and some chat for a month. In one of our polls, 60% of 499 voters said they would rather break the ice online, and 40% preferred instant chemistry in person. Both are fine.

Things worth settling before you meet:

  • Are you looking for the same thing: friendship, a social drink, something more?
  • Do you each feel comfortable about the other couple, not just one of them?
  • Do the details line up between the profile, the photos and the conversation?
  • Are you sharing personal details only when you want to? Stay on the platform until you are ready.

The full checklist is in How to Vet Another Couple Before You Meet.

What should a first meeting look like?

Low pressure, public and short. Meet for a drink or coffee, somewhere you can both leave easily, early in the evening. Tell a friend where you are going, travel under your own steam and agree a signal with your partner for "I would like to go". There is no obligation to do anything beyond talking, and a pleasant drink with new friends is a perfectly good result.

Afterwards, talk to each other first. Did you both enjoy it? Would you both like to see them again? Only then reply. If one of you is unsure, that is enough to wait.

Is it easier to meet couples at an event?

For some people, yes. A social night or party puts you in a room with plenty of people and no need to organise anything. The host sets the tone, and you can leave without a fuss. Many couples go to a few events purely to socialise before they do anything else. If you would like to try one, read Your First Swingers Club and take a look at swingers parties.

Being new to the area, or living outside a big city? Each country has its own community page: the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

What mistakes do couples make?

  • One partner doing all the chatting while the other goes along reluctantly.
  • Rushing to meet because it is going well, instead of checking they are who they say they are.
  • Mismatched expectations, such as one couple wanting a friendship and the other wanting a full swap.
  • Over-sharing personal details early.
  • Taking a no personally. It is almost never about you.

If a couple does not click, that is useful information, not a failure. Looking for a third rather than another couple? Our guide to how to find a third is the place to go, and the unicorns and bulls pages are there when you are ready.

Frequently asked questions

Online first, for most couples. It lets you chat, check profiles and take your time. Social nights and parties are a good second step once you are comfortable.
Be honest in your profile about experience and what you are open to, then browse couples seeking couples near you. Compatibility is mostly about matching expectations, so say what you want.
A couple profile should represent both of you, with both partners agreeing to everything on it. How much you show of your faces is your choice.
There is no right number. Meet when you both feel comfortable and the details add up, and not before.
Say so. Many couples are happy to talk to newcomers, and plenty of members started exactly where you are. Our first-timer guides are a good place to begin.
Thank them and move on. A no is a complete answer and has nothing to do with your worth.
